Dr. Krishnakumar

Dr. Krishnakumar did his Bachelors in medicine at the Government Medical College, Thrissur followed by his Masters in Orthopedics (2006) at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, an affiliate of the Aligarh Muslim University. The same year he began his medical career as Assistant Professor in the Orthopedics Department of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College, Trivandrum. A fellowship in Reconstructive Orthopedics & Ilizarov Surgery under the guidance of Dr. Mangal Parihar, the nationally famed pioneer in Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Surgery, and the first ever orthopedist to introduce Computer Assisted Deformity Correction System in India, beckoned him in 2009 to the Centre for Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Surgery at Mumbai.

On completion of the fellowship Dr. Krishnakumar rejoined Dr. SMCSI Medical College with independent charge of the institution’s Limb Reconstruction Surgery Center. Since then, Dr. Krishnakumar and his associates have been performing pretty complex limb reconstructive procedures and deformity correction surgeries with an appreciable degree of success. In 2013 Dr. Krishnakumar and his team moved to Thrissur and has been attached to various hospitals in and around Thrissur. He was the first to introduce into the state’s orthopedic surgical segment the cutting-edge Computer Assisted Six-axis correction – ORTHO-SUV system; and now he heads a team that offers state-of-the-art treatment modalities for complex trauma, non-unions and mal-unions, and congenital and acquired deformities like femoral deficiency, Blount’s disease and achondroplasia.

Research Orientation

Presently a senior consultant in Reconstructive Orthopaedics at Atreya Hospital Thrissur & Edappal Hospitals, Dr. Krishnakumar was awarded the prestigious A. A Mehta Gold Medal for his Paper on six axis (hexapod) correction systems at IOACON 2012, (Annual Conference of Indian Orthopedic Association) held at Chennai. KOACON 2013 (Annual Conference of Kerala Orthopedic Association) held at Kottayam also honored him with Prof Surendran Gold Medal for his outstanding research work on High Tibial Osteotomy. As part of his continuing research engagements in limb lengthening and reconstruction surgery, Dr. Krishhnakumar has been presenting papers on his findings in national and international conferences for some time now. An invited faculty of the Annual Deformity Program held at Palakkad since its inception in 2011, Dr. Krishnakumar is also a resource expert sought regularly for conferences and workshops related to his specialty.
